"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve others..."
- Mark 10:45
Giving to others — especially those in greatest need — is at the foundation of the Sheil Catholic Center’s mission. Service opportunities at Sheil focus on improving our immediate and broader communities through generosity of time and self. Our goal is to support Sheil’s students and associates as they help others, learn about specific social issues and become active leaders of the community.
Many opportunities exist to volunteer at and around the Sheil Center. In addition to opportunities that benefit our Evanston and Chicago communities, we also host national and international service trips to New Orleans and Nicaragua. All members of Sheil are welcome to join us in this vibrant and vital ministry.
Service opportunities at the Sheil Center include:
- Service Trips
- Elder Care
- Prison Visits Ministry
- Sheil School of Religion
- Soup Kitchen
- Other Service Opportunities & Resources
In addition, other Sheil groups, including Catholic Undergrads and Graduate Students & Young Adults, coordinate their own service projects. Sheil also participates in social justice conferences and other special service projects throughout Northwestern University and Chicago.
