Sheil Career Mentoring Program
Students: Curious about life after college? Associates: Interested in sharing your career experiences? Get involved in Sheil's Career Mentoring Program!
Purpose of Mentoring
Thanks to its unique combination of students and associates, the Sheil community can sponsor a mentoring program through which both groups contribute in essential ways to the mission of Sheil. Associates, as mentors, offer their talents, education and work experience to assist students who are entering similar career paths. These interactions help to build a community of dialogue, mutual respect and learning.
How it Works
Mentors and students interact in a variety of ways:
Who are the Mentors?
Associates who have experience and education in the students' career fields; NU faculty; Sheil staff; Graduate students.
Who can be Mentored?
Undergraduates, Graduate Students and Young Adults.
Benefits of Mentoring
Mentoring offers opportunities for one-on-one and/or small group converation between students and mentors about:
Getting Involved
There are currently mentoring groups in six career fields:
As we discover interest in other career fields, we will expand the program.
If there are not enough students to form a group, we can still connect individual students with mentors in their fields.
For more information about getting involved, please contact Mary Louise Doherty at maryldoherty7@mac.com. We welcome your ideas and suggestions. Information about upcoming events can be found on the Web and in The Commons.
