Faith & Spirituality

We offer a number of ways for people to participate in communal prayer and faith sharing activities, several of which are listed below. Additionally, we often have specific opportunities around the Advent and Lent seasons.

For more information on any of these opportunities, contact the Sheil Center at (847) 328-4648.

Bible Study

Bible Study, while part of our Education program, is also a form of small group faith sharing. If you are interested in Bible Study, click here.

Days of Reflection

Periodically, Sheil Catholic Center offers days of reflection aimed at specific groups who would like to explore a specific topic or deepen their integration of faith and life through prayer, shared discussion, and silence. Typically, the day consists of 4-5 hours and includes a common meal which is either brought or purchased by the participants.

Ignatian Spirituality

Ignatian Spirituality meets on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. All are welcome to attend.

Retreats

Sheil Catholic Center gives students the opportunity to deepen their faith with God each quarter through a variety of retreat programs. The retreats are led by a team of students, Father Ken and the Sheil staff. Each retreat is held in a sacred setting with ample time for prayer, reflection and conversation.

Sheil Small Faith Groups

Small Group Faith Sharing is for anyone hoping to enrich their community experience beyond Sunday Mass. The small groups are designed and led by students. We gather once a week to share prayer, fellowship and reflect on God's presence in our lives. The dates and times for small group meetings vary each quarter. New members are welcome at any time!

Spiritual Companioning

For those who are looking for some ongoing spiritual support, this is the program! Several of our Busy Student Retreat guides will serve as Spiritual Companions to students throughout the school year.

The expectation is that students will commit to trying to pray for at least 15 minutes each day, and that they will meet with their companion every four weeks for between 30-45 minutes (meetings will take place at Sheil). Each companion will review with their students how the relationship is going after three sessions, and if the student wants to drop out for some reason, that’s fine.

This is an individual program. If you are interested, please contact the office at (847) 328-4648.
