2007-08 Retreats

Sheil Catholic Center gives students the opportunity to deepen their faith with God each quarter through a variety of retreat programs. The retreats are led by a team of students and the Sheil staff. Each retreat is held in a sacred setting with ample time for prayer, reflection and conversation.

Weekend Retreats for Students

The Fall and Spring Retreats are led by students and created especially for their peers. This is a great chance for students to get away from campus and focus on their relationship with God.

The retreats are centered around peer witness talks, activities and small group sharing. There will be plenty of time for quiet prayer and reflection, as well as lots of food, fun and time spent outdoors.

Weekend Retreats are held at St. Benedict's Abbey in Benet Lake, Wisconsin. Transportation is provided. Students leave after classes on Friday afternoon and return on Sunday afternoon. Cost is $45, and scholarships are available.

Weekend Retreats for this year will be held:

Fall Retreat: November 16, 17, & 18
Spring Retreat: May 9, 10, & 11

All-Sheil Retreat

All students and associates are welcome to join us for the Winter Retreat. The retreat is led by Mary Deeley and other members of the Sheil staff. It is held at the Resurrection Center in Woodstock, Illinois and provides ample opportunity for prayer, conversation and Scripture reflection. If the weather cooperates, there will also be time for sledding and other outdoor winter activities.

The next All-Sheil Retreat will be held on February 16 & 17

For more information, contact Mary Deeley at m-deeley@northwestern.edu.

Twilight Retreats

Sheil Twilight Retreats are designed to focus on the unique years of the undergraduate experience. The retreats are held at the Sheil Catholic Center and include a dinner, speakers, activities, conversation and prayer. The retreats are hosted by a team of students and the Sheil staff, and typically last from 5-10pm.

Upcoming Twilight Retreats will be held on the following dates:

Freshmen Retreat: February 9 (2pm-7pm)
Sophomore Retreat: January 26 (2pm-7pm)
Junior Retreat: October 25 (5pm-10pm)
Senior Retreat (Last Night @ Sheil): May 22 (5pm-10pm)

For more information, contact Beth Knobbe at b-knobbe@northwestern.edu.

Almost-Silent Retreat

Students and associates are invited to spend a few days praying with the monks at the Trappist Monastery in New Melleray, Iowa. This "mostly silent" retreat offers the opportunity for extended quiet reflection and the option for individual conversation with an experienced spiritual director.

The next Almost-Silent Retreat will be held on December 17, 18, & 19

For more information, contact Mary Deeley at m-deeley@northwestern.edu.

Busy Student Retreat

Our most popular retreat experience! If you think you're too busy to go on retreat, this one is for you. Our Busy Student Retreat provides an opportunity for students to go on retreat without ever leaving campus. This is a chance for students to find time for God and focus on their personal relationship with Christ.

Students commit to a half-hour of prayer each day and a half-hour meeting with a Spiritual Companion. Students are also invited to various evening reflections throughout the week. The Busy Student Retreat is held during Reading Week just prior to Winter Quarter final exams.

The next Busy Student Retreat will be held on March 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6

For more information, contact Tim Higgins at t-higgins3@northwestern.edu.

Lent Evening of Reflection

During Lent we are called to conversion, so that we may enter the Easter mysteries in the healing, life-giving light of Christ. David Phillipart, St. Nicholas Parish, Director of Liturgy, and former liturgist on staff for the Office of Divine Worship, Archdiocese of Chicago, will lead us in prayer and reflection. The evening will begin with the sharing of a simple meal. All are welcome to attend.

The Lenten Evening of Reflection will be held on February 28
Dinner: 5:00-6:00pm
Reflection & Prayer: 6:00-8:00pm.

For more information, contact Angela Stramaglia or at (847) 328-4648.
